Visit the Palm Beach Zoo in West Palm Beach

With daily shows and awesome animal exhibits, a trip to the Palm Beach Zoo was high on the agenda during my family’s recent trip to West Palm Beach and it didn’t disappoint! While we like the outdoors, we actually hadn’t been to a zoo in quite some time. I was really surprised by how much there was to do, the variety of animals to see, and how well-kept the facility was. It really was the highlight of our trip.

The zoo is broken up into four regions: Florida, Tropics, Asia, and Islands (and they have everything from koalas, to monkeys, to tigers). We started off with the exhibits that showcased animals native to Florida. We loved seeing the flamingos, otters, alligators, and bears.

We were able to get up-close-and-personal with many of the animals, including beautiful macaws. When you go, be sure to bring spare change so that you can feed the ducks, birds, and fish (which was my son’s favorite part).

There are two fun shows performed daily for visitors. Wings Over Water is an interactive show featuring over 20 trained birds from around the world. Wild Things showcases the natural behaviors of many furry, feathered and scaly friends. If you really want to give your kids something they’ll never forget, reserve an exclusive behind-the-scenes experience with one of six different zoo inhabitants! I mean, who would want to pet and feed the resident capybara sisters?!

After you’ve seen the animals, take a spin on the Wildlife Carousel, where riders can choose from a hummingbird, manatee, jaguar, and even a sea dragon. Or take a ride on the Safari Train. Both cost $3 each or two rides for $5. Proceeds directly benefit the zoo’s animals, and that’s sweet!

When it’s time to eat, stop by the Tropics Café. They offer full-service dining, including beer and wine. Concession stands are also available throughout the park, selling things like hot dogs, cold drinks, and ice cream.

Bring a change of clothes because you’ll want to cool off in the zoo’s famous fountains at some point. Changing tents are located nearby, and there’s plenty of seating if you’d rather relax while your kids splash around.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for kids 3 through 12, and $18 for seniors. If you think you’ll visit more than once, consider getting an annual membership. Parking is free. The zoo is open every day (except Thanksgiving and Christmas) from 9:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m.
